Our Founder and Trustee, Ellie Somme was honoured in the New Year’s Honours list with an MBE for her work with the Teddy Trust.

Says Ellie:  I was astonished and felt hugely honoured to receive an MBE this year for my work with the Teddy Trust which I founded some thirteen years ago. But without the support and hard work of our small team of dedicated volunteers the Teddy Trust would never have become what it is today.  And I am hugely indebted to our Chairman Sandy Douglas, and our amazing Trustees and volunteers who give so freely of their time in making the Teddy Trust so successful.

I and my son Oliver and his boys Isaac and Ruebin and my partner Art, visited Windsor Castle on the 22nd May.  It rained and was cold but we had the most wonderful day with Prince William giving out 49 awards in the stunning setting of the Castle.  And then we went for a lovely meal in Windsor afterwards to celebrate! 

The awarding of the MBE is for us all at the Teddy Trust and is an official recognition that what we do is incredibly important to the children we have managed to reach over the years with the simple gift of a teddy bear, lovingly given by a child in the UK.  It has also given us a platform to reach businesses that may be able to help us financially in the future in knowing that we are serious and here to stay!
